One of the NHS services that can really change your life is early screening for cancer. You can find out all about screening and how you access it, in the article and links below.
Bowel cancer screening
NHS bowel cancer screening checks if you could have bowel cancer. Everyone aged 50 to 74 years who is registered with a GP and lives in England is automatically sent an NHS bowel cancer screening kit every 2 years. You can also get screening for bowel cancer every 2 years if you’re aged 75 or over, but you need to call the bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 6060 and ask for the test. Please refer to the NHS website on Bowel cancer screening – NHS
Cervical screening (smear test)
We are currently offering cervical screening on Saturdays, on a Thursday evening and throughout the week, please contact the practice to book your appointment. If you missed your last cervical screening, you do not need to wait for an invitation to book an appointment. Please refer to the NHS website on Cervical screening – NHS
Breast cancer screening
Anyone registered with a GP will be invited for NHS breast screening every 3 years between the ages of 50 and 71. You’ll first be invited for screening within three years of your 50th Birthday.
There is also currently a trial to examine the effectiveness of offering some women one extra screen between the ages of 47 and 49, and one between the ages of 71 and 73.
You’ll get a letter in the post inviting you, if you have not been contacted, contact your local breast screening service.
