Out of area patients

We are no longer accepting out of area patients as after careful consideration, we believe it is not clinically appropriate or beneficial for our patients to be out of area. This decision is based on our commitment to patient safety, as changes in a patient’s  health may require care that we cannot provide due to the distance. Our priority is to ensure that all patients have access to and receive the safe level of care you need.

As a practice, we are accountable for all our registered patients, including those living outside our practice boundary. The British Medical Association (BMA) advises that we must ensure appropriate care arrangements are in place for all our patients. We have identified several concerns for our out of area patients:

  • Limited availability of community and social services, especially when potential issues arise, such as safeguarding concerns.
  • Potential difficulties when referring to secondary care services, particularly if they are not in Gloucestershire.
  • Inability to provide emergency care in the form of a home visit in a safe and timely manner due to the distance from the practice. Emergency care is a contractual obligation that we are unable to fulfil for our ‘out of area patients’ due to the distance from the practice.
